Many of you already know that Nexaer will not be exhibiting the LS1 at EAA AirVenture in Oshkosh this year. This was an extremely difficult decision to make, but after considering all of the factors and timelines, we are certain that it's the right thing to do. Most of us can think of companies that arrive at Oshkosh year after year, promoting products that never come to fruition, or that are perpetually available "later this year." Nexaer can not become one of those companies, or we will have violated our own values and philosophy, and we will have violated your trust.
Those who have been in the aviation community for any length of time are keenly aware of the lengthy developmental cycle that is inherent with a new aircraft design. At best, the cycle is about two years; in other cases, it can take five to ten years. Manufacturers in our industry typically begin marketing a new aircraft several years before the airplane enters regular production. From the business perspective, there are many valid reasons for early promotions (market validation and production scaling, for example) but all too often these premature promotions end up transforming a would-be customer from cheerleader to cynic.
Right now Nexaer is generating quite a following, and we want to do all we can to keep you cheering, even if it means going against the flow and doing things differently. The mere idea of not going to Oshkosh seemed ridiculous to us a couple weeks ago, because "everyone" goes to Oshkosh. What would people think if Nexaer didn't go to Oshkosh this year? Will there be nay-sayers who use this opportunity to sling mud? Well, we can't control what other people think or say. We can only tell you that we're doing our best to bring you the most innovative and exciting airplane in the LSA market. Based on your feedback over the past year, we think we're right on track.
We realize many of you will be disappointed to not see us at Oshkosh. Even so, we hope you will understand our decision, and that you will continue to support us as we bring the LS1 through first flight and product development, and into production.
